Book of Creation
Composing a Book of Creation is one of the latest objective for a hero, available after their god manages to bring their first lab boss to life as of 2019.[1]
Gameplay Information
Progress
To complete the Book, champions need to collect glyphs. Each Word is 4 glyphs, and the Book is 1,000 words long. Therefore, 4,000 glyphs are required for completion.
Progress is displayed as a percentage of Book completion plus any known glyphs of the next word in brackets. Periods are used as placeholders to indicate a blank space for a future glyph in a given word and will fill all 4 spaces when the last known word is complete. An example with 19 words and 3 glyphs is displayed below.
1.9% + [╧┴╡.]
Relative progress in the book is displayed in the pantheon of wordcraft, but this ranks by only the percentage, not the glyphs toward the next word.
Obtaining Glyphs
There is several way to obtain glyphs :
- Sleeping in a town (2-4 glyphs) [2];
- Reward of a Side Job (5-6 glyphs);
- Reward from Wanted monsters (1-2 glyphs);
- Minting bosscoins in the Datamine (1 glyph per bosscoin minted) [3].
Strategies for increasing the speed of completion therefore include...
- ...being careful not to wake the heroine.
- ...helping the heroine complete side jobs.
- ...helping the heroine reach points of interest to obtain new side jobs.
- ...helping the heroine defeat wanted monsters that do not have a cash reward listed in the Godville Times.
- ...sending an awakened boss-monster to the Datamine.
Reward
Completing the Book of Creation will grant the deity access to the Dungeon Forge, which grants one the power to build their own dungeon. Additionally, as the champion has mastered his calligraphy, he can fit twice the number of entries into the same limited space of his diary (namely, 20 entries rather than 10).[4]
This also opens up the ability to collect souls. As soon the deity collects their first soul, access is granted to the Spirit Refinery. Here, the deity can collect 5,000 souls for the purpose of refining a special soul extract.[5].
Other uses for Glyphs and Words
Words, and therefore glyphs, are needed as resources for several post-book activities :
- Dungeon Forge requires 10 words per creation;
- Some Constructs requires words for their construction.
What Even Are Glyphs?
For the curious, glyphs appear to come from the Unicode block called "Box Drawing" (U+2500 to U+257F). These characters were originally used to create boxes and tables using text alone. In Unicode order, the following characters have appeared as glyphs at least once.
┌ ┐ ┘ └ ├ ┤ ┬ ┴ ┼ ═ ║ ╒ ╓ ╔ ╕ ╖ ╗ ╘ ╙ ╚ ╛ ╜ ╝ ╞ ╟ ╠ ╡ ╢ ╣ ╤ ╥ ╦ ╧ ╨ ╩ ╪ ╫ ╬
As these characters were originally designed to create graphics, one might be inclined to wonder whether this means the game will one day have visuals....
