Guidebook project

So excited that you found my (forgotten) GodWiki guidebook project! How the heck did you stumble on it? And are you gonna help? --His portliness (talk) 07:22, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

It was WardPhoenix who dug it up and linked it to the tested templates. :D I'll try to help but I'm not much of a writer so maybe I'll offer advices and suggestions from time to time. And maybe help with layout/formatting issues if there are any. --Zoombie (talk) 07:44, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm a writer, if someone provides very rough content I can polish it and clarify it. I forgot about my little project for a while lol. I really want it to happen. --His portliness (talk) 10:43, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
lol@mobile edits. It's why I dislike typing when I'm on mobile. Anyway, my writing abilities are currently limited to drawing up random wacky scenarios in the forum games and writing haikus there but I'll try to come up with some content for your guidebook project. -- Zoombie (talk) 01:34, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Old Notes on doublon

Giving this for information.

Thanks for this. I guess I'll just do the other stuff first before coming back to the possibly misspelled article names on my list. Just in case, moves/redirects can be reverted, right? -- Zoombie (talk) 16:16, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
IIRC, Moves cannot be reverted, or atleast not by mere undo. It has to be move the way back (when it doesn't bug). Redirects are just links so they are way easier to fix. --WardPhoenix (talk) 16:19, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
I guess I should be more careful then. I moved a few articles a couple of days ago. Hopefully none of them will need to be moved back. -- Zoombie (talk) 16:30, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Ideabox

Hi, I saw you were working on ideabox vote template.

There is already one template on that, {{Ideabox votes}} so you might think of updating that one with your work if you manage it :) -- WardPhoenix (talk) 17:02, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks! I'm actually using that and the {{Diary}} template as references on how to code templates since they're shorter and much easier to read than the other templates. The coding is really neat and clean in those templates.
I'm not yet sure how I can add my ideabox template to the existing one without breaking it or significantly changing it since my template already incorporates having the idea text itself into the template. I think it could be done but I'll need a bit more time to think on how to do it.
I am planning to make a stricter way to check if the input is a number or not to prevent letters and symbols from appearing where they shouldn't. I think I could add this feature to the existing template or make this a separate stand-alone template so it can be used for other templates in the future. Though I'm not yet entirely sure if this feature will actually be useful or if it is redundant and unnecessary. -- Zoombie (talk) 07:06, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Actually, that shouldn't be too hard. If you're familiar with either JS or PHP then you have heard of switch.
Mediawiki have a similar function (check MediaWiki Parsers for more info) and we could imagine pasting part of your code behind the format parameter as |format=desktop for example and then use the same parameter for the votes numbers and create a new parameter for the idea itself.
Easier said that done obviously, but it shouldnt be impossible.

It's also probably doable via parsers. I think there is already something like that in {{ideabox votes}} IIRC (or in another template not sure). Can be useful for displaying error message when user makes a mistakes but that's it. -- WardPhoenix (talk) 11:20, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

My programming background is more on C and Java but, yes, they also have switch. I've yet to completely understand wikicode and it's been a while since I've used any of my programming knowledge/skills so I'll probably have to do some trial and error to get things right.

This is true. It will probably take several tries to not break the existing ideabox template. 😅 Wouldn't want to break it for anyone who's currently using the template.

The one in {{ideabox votes}} only checks if dupes > 1 so it can add an 's' to dupe so if dupes > 1, say dupes, else say dupe. I'm thinking more of if the argument passed to the parameter is not an integer, then show nothing or show a '-'. But the only use case I can think for this is to stop potential vandalisms or typos from showing up so I'm not sure exactly how useful this is and I'm probably just nitpicking at this point.
I'll give this a proper think and see where it leads me. Thanks a lot for the advices. 😀 -- Zoombie (talk) 12:07, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
