:: You really shouldn't keep {{tlx|talkback}} in your talk page. It's just meant to notify you that you received a reply in a talk page that is not yours (because wiki notification isn't that great and it's easy to miss stuff) and should be erased once you've seen it so others can put it up again if need be. Check out {{tlx|talkback}} for a more detailed explanation.

:: Also, regarding editing a template's source code, I wouldn't recommend doing it directly. You should not edit any page that has <code><nowiki>Template:</nowiki></code> on the title if you don't know what you're doing. It can break a lot of things in the wiki because a lot of pages use, or in wiki parlance, transclude templates. If, however, you meant modifying the template '''after''' you've transcluded it in your page, that is, after you've called it in your page, then it's fine. It will not affect anyone else. I really recommend reading the [[Creators Manual]] if you haven't yet. It covers most of the basics and has a section about templates [[Creators Manual#Templates|here]]. -- <span style = "color: #35a28e;">'''''Zoombie'''''</span> [[User:Zoombie|<span style = "background: #DF968F; color: darkslategray; border: 1px solid gray; padding: 2px 4px; border-radius: 3px;">'''''Zoombie's page'''''</span>]] [[User talk:Zoombie|<span style = "background: #A9CCE3; color: darkslategray; border: 1px solid gray; padding: 2px 4px; border-radius: 3px;">'''''talk with Zoombie'''''</span>]] 22:13, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Fancy signature test

So you have to manually input the time and everything? Any way to make this a template that is more automated? --His portliness (talk) 07:38, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
This is all templated. Right now, I am actually signing these messages with the standard four tildes. :D The whole code shows up because the wiki software happens to use SUBST (substitution) when it comes to signature instead of transcluding (embedding) them like how templates are normally used in the rest of the wiki. Basically, the code is replaced/substituted with all the contents and codes of the template instead of simply integrating and using the template's structure or framework. This also means that the template does not apply retroactively and any change in the template will only reflect the next time it is used. This is also why my own page has all the complicated codes from Usergod show up if you view the code. It will also say that {{Infobox}} is transcluded but not {{Usergod}} if you check which templates are used on the page.
Now, if you look at your preferences, you'll see your signature at the bottom of the first tab. Notice how by default, it only shows you a link to your user page and a link to your talk page. That's what shows up if you type three tildes ~~~ instead of four. Four tildes (~~~~) automatically adds a timestamp while five tildes ~~~~~ will only add a timestamps with no signature. Btw, you can change your current signature by simply typing a new signature in the New Signature box but, there's a 255 character limit so more complicated customized signatures that will likely exceed that limit will have to be put into a template. Check this out for simpler customizations. I tried out the simple ones before I went fancier with this button look. I got the idea while I was browsing all those wikis I linked to in the Main Discussion, specifically from here. -- Zoombie Zoombie's page talk with Zoombie 11:37, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Guidebook project

So excited that you found my (forgotten) GodWiki guidebook project! How the heck did you stumble on it? And are you gonna help? --His portliness (talk) 07:22, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

It was WardPhoenix who dug it up and linked it to the tested templates. :D I'll try to help but I'm not much of a writer so maybe I'll offer advices and suggestions from time to time. And maybe help with layout/formatting issues if there are any. --Zoombie (talk) 07:44, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm a writer, if someone provides very rough content I can polish it and clarify it. I forgot about my little project for a while lol. I really want it to happen. --His portliness (talk) 10:43, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
lol@mobile edits. It's why I dislike typing when I'm on mobile. Anyway, my writing abilities are currently limited to drawing up random wacky scenarios in the forum games and writing haikus there but I'll try to come up with some content for your guidebook project. -- Zoombie (talk) 01:34, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for this. I guess I'll just do the other stuff first before coming back to the possibly misspelled article names on my list. Just in case, moves/redirects can be reverted, right? -- Zoombie (talk) 16:16, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
IIRC, Moves cannot be reverted, or atleast not by mere undo. It has to be move the way back (when it doesn't bug). Redirects are just links so they are way easier to fix. --WardPhoenix (talk) 16:19, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
I guess I should be more careful then. I moved a few articles a couple of days ago. Hopefully none of them will need to be moved back. -- Zoombie (talk) 16:30, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Ideabox

Hi, I saw you were working on ideabox vote template.

There is already one template on that, {{Ideabox votes}} so you might think of updating that one with your work if you manage it :) -- WardPhoenix (talk) 17:02, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks! I'm actually using that and the {{Diary}} template as references on how to code templates since they're shorter and much easier to read than the other templates. The coding is really neat and clean in those templates.
I'm not yet sure how I can add my ideabox template to the existing one without breaking it or significantly changing it since my template already incorporates having the idea text itself into the template. I think it could be done but I'll need a bit more time to think on how to do it.
I am planning to make a stricter way to check if the input is a number or not to prevent letters and symbols from appearing where they shouldn't. I think I could add this feature to the existing template or make this a separate stand-alone template so it can be used for other templates in the future. Though I'm not yet entirely sure if this feature will actually be useful or if it is redundant and unnecessary. -- Zoombie (talk) 07:06, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Actually, that shouldn't be too hard. If you're familiar with either JS or PHP then you have heard of switch.
Mediawiki have a similar function (check MediaWiki Parsers for more info) and we could imagine pasting part of your code behind the format parameter as |format=desktop for example and then use the same parameter for the votes numbers and create a new parameter for the idea itself.
Easier said that done obviously, but it shouldnt be impossible.

It's also probably doable via parsers. I think there is already something like that in {{ideabox votes}} IIRC (or in another template not sure). Can be useful for displaying error message when user makes a mistakes but that's it. -- WardPhoenix (talk) 11:20, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

My programming background is more on C and Java but, yes, they also have switch. I've yet to completely understand wikicode and it's been a while since I've used any of my programming knowledge/skills so I'll probably have to do some trial and error to get things right.

Easier said that done obviously, but it shouldnt be impossible.

This is true. It will probably take several tries to not break the existing ideabox template. 😅 Wouldn't want to break it for anyone who's currently using the template.

The one in {{ideabox votes}} only checks if dupes > 1 so it can add an 's' to dupe so if dupes > 1, say dupes, else say dupe. I'm thinking more of if the argument passed to the parameter is not an integer, then show nothing or show a '-'. But the only use case I can think for this is to stop potential vandalisms or typos from showing up so I'm not sure exactly how useful this is and I'm probably just nitpicking at this point.
I'll give this a proper think and see where it leads me. Thanks a lot for the advices. 😀 -- Zoombie (talk) 12:07, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

New help , shoulder devil

Shoulder devil page redirected to main page , i got it to redirect to articles for deletion page , i was not sure if you wanted just to it not redirect to anyplace at all or some page specific , since it's marked for deletion i hope to help thanks for your time, and its not a project i just want to help with some of your to do list . Thx fot the attention -- Bravvus (talk) 23:02, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks. I appreciate your attempt to help with this but you really should have consulted me before making this particular move. There's a reason why it's tagged as Question.png Not sure instead of Cross.png Not done. Pages that are marked for deletion do not need to be redirected to anywhere. It should just be marked for deletion with {{delete}} and that's it. I'll revert the change that you've made and fix this. In the meantime, there are other easier tasks around the Projects page like the uncategorized files that you can help with. Why not try those first? -- Zoombie Zoombie's page talk with Zoombie 01:22, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
ops my bad , going to revert , but it was redirecting to the main page either way it was for the best ^^ thx for your time and, im sorry should have talked to you frist , going to look up you sugestion thx again
Ps. I liked your tamplate and stole it lol , im also going to put credits in my talk page stating its was made by you -- Bravvus (talk) 01:03, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
It's okay. No harm done. We're lucky the changes were revertible this time and wasn't buggy. 😅
I did say in my message above that I was going to revert it. Maybe you missed it somehow because it's in the middle of my long message? I'm sorry. It's probably because I tend to ramble. 😅 I will work on my communication skills.
Yes. I did see you using my template. I suggest changing the colors to make it your own and make it look more unique. Those colors are kinda my whole theme for my user page. You can use this site to choose colors. You can also use these color codes to change the colors of the infobox at your user page. If you're having trouble, well, you already know where to ask. 😅 -- Zoombie Zoombie's page talk with Zoombie 02:28, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
Great! there's always a noob rushing to make changes and boom!! , no more wiki D= , glad wasn't my case this time, oh yeah btw when i was previewing my comment i did notice you said you would change it , i think i was so embarassed by the mistake that i just post the reply without any corrections , my bad this time , your communications skills are safe ^^
I was playing a bit with your template , and forgot to put as a comment to slowly work on it , well no harm done , cool i was trying to mess a bit with the colors , btw , how you change the fontcolor ? , and a... yeah my code is a mess so is better for your hearth not to see the "modifications" LOL"! thx =D -- Bravvus (talk) 03:05, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Just calm down. lol. You don't need to rush. Rushing only makes you make mistakes.
