:::: So, I've improved the way Diarybar handles the status parameter. If you give it a value with a %, it'll trust you. But also, now you can actually give it a mathematical expression if that's easier. So, you can do {{para|status|30%}}, or {{para|status| 123 / 175}} or if you really want you can do {{para|status| pi ^ e}}, it won't care 👍😊 -- [[User:Djonni|Djonni]] ([[User talk:Djonni|talk]]) 19:09, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

Revision as of 19:39, 28 November 2019

This is a talk page. Maybe. Or not. Don't know. Leaving this just in case : GodWardPhoenix (U • C • T)

This page has an archive

Old and/or inactive discussions have been moved to the /Archive subpage.

Leave a note for me there

Editable sections within a table

I saw your note about how possible it is to make editable sections within a large table, like List of Artifacts. Take a look at User:Djonni/Sandbox#List of Artifacts. I didn't make it pretty, just showing the general concept

It is possible to edit just a section at a time, but the editing becomes super messy, and it's not possible to preview the results. It becomes really easy to mess up the whole table with a simple edit.

I had similar ideas, though, so I've thought about the same thing! Haha :) -- Djonni (talk) 20:57, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

Yes indeed, it doesn't look more pratical to edit sadly. The reason I tried to find a way to edit that is because for some reason, when I try to edit those pages on mobile, my phone just freeze and reset, probably because those list are too long for the RAM. Then there is the possibility of putting a classic header and thus making each letter a different tables but that may be quite unelegant. --WardPhoenix (talk) 21:44, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

Intrusion - LOTD Roster page

Thank you. So far the page is an experiment to see if it will be more manageable to keep updated. I appreciate the help and the suggestion. I did not know about the top template. Also, I did not see it as an intrusion.

Glad to help! Don't hesitate to ask if you need, there or on Help:Requests! --WardPhoenix (talk) 13:03, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

My problem is not knowing what is available, so I don't know that I need help. The top template is way better than collapsible text areas. Sand Devil (talk) 14:12, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

Exemplary and Example

I saw you recently edited the tavern template documentation to fix a spelling error. I thought I would let you know that “exemplary” *is* spelled with an “e”.

Not chastising you or anything, I just wanted to let you know. This is one of the weirder quirks in English.

“Example” comes from Old English “exaumple” Old French “essample”, from the Latin word “exemplum”. From “eximere” (take out), from “ex-” (out), and “emere” (take)

“Exemplary”, comes from Middle French “exemplaire”, from Late Latin “exemplaris” which itself comes from “exemplum”.

Though... I just used the builtin oxford dictionary and wiktionary to provide that.

Another bizarre thing French did to English? General Attorney—excuse me, Attorney General, following the French ordering of words. A lot of law terms follow the French ordering. Bizarrely, the terms were translated to English but they kept the French ordering. It’s called Anglo-Norman/Law French. Law documents used to be written exclusively in Law French. (Wiktionary:attorney general)

The lesson I hope you take from this talk post is that French (French influence to be precise) is one of the biggest reasons why English is so confusing.

Emptysora (talk) 02:13, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Oh well, thanks for the explanation. Good to know that we, Frenches, managed not only to make our own language confusing and hard to learn, but even other ones 🤣 --WardPhoenix (talk) 13:46, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
😂 Heh. No worries, for a second I was confused. I was like, “wait... exemplary *is* with an ‘e’ right? Oh boy...” — Emptysora (talk) 13:59, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Diarybar

Take the %s off the status value and it'll work as expected. 😊

Also, I threw |customdatastyle23 = vertical-align: middle; into the example above, so you can see the difference with the middle alignment. -- Djonni (talk) 23:35, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Well, the diary bar was working on mobile view, it was not calling the width parameter which brake the thing. But anyway, thanks for the datastyle, it's better :p --WardPhoenix (talk) 11:28, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
It was?! I'll have to look into why! 😅 I might be able to change it to handle either with or without the % sign, actually. Hmmm. 🧐 -- Djonni (talk) 11:37, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
So, I've improved the way Diarybar handles the status parameter. If you give it a value with a %, it'll trust you. But also, now you can actually give it a mathematical expression if that's easier. So, you can do |status=30%, or |status= 123 / 175 or if you really want you can do |status= pi ^ e, it won't care 👍😊 -- Djonni (talk) 19:09, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Oh well, I'll let it normal now, but that's good to know just in case :p --WardPhoenix (talk) 19:39, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
