History

Hundreds of years ago, a wandering merchant set up camp in an isolated spot near the sea. His goal was to journey to Herolympus and live the rest of his years in peace. He had some items but no money to make the trip. After a few days, a passing Hero, who had become well-known while fighting in the Godville Arena, decided to buy from this man. Noticing that the items were of high quality, he asked directions for how to come back. Some historians are still arguing over whether the trader knowingly did so or not, but the Hero was given directions that led him straight back to the wandering merchant's camp. Each time, the hero would have more items to sell and more gold with which to buy equipment. Each time, the merchant would haggle lower and sell higher. One day, the merchant, grown old, found he had enough to retire comfortably in Herolympus. By then, other heroes had found his camp. Some were not caught in the dread cycle the first hero had been, and the site was soon packed with merchants and heroes and regular townsfolk wanting to trade. There were so many tents, they decided to construct buildings. Eventually, it simply became a city. Tradeburg is one of the most famous places in all of Godville.

Geography

Overlooked by the Jagged Peaks, the land itself is oddly flat, despite the many dangerous landslides that occur at the height of summer. The Pathway of Lemmings passes nearby, leading mysteriously over the sheer cliffs. It is often very windy here due to Tradeburg's proximity to the ocean but the advantages of trade outweigh this trivial factor. The buildings here are never taller than two stories which is helpful since the town layout is a bit of a mess with every free plot of land taken up by a multitude of tents.

Distinct Features

Tradeburg is the only city without a mayor or any form of government authority. This is due to it being a market based economy with a constantly changing population. While never having less than 10,000 people in residence there are actually few permanent residents. It is also known to be the only one without buildings taller than two stories high. It is one of the two cities that has a harbor for trading overseas (the other is Trollbridge). Most of the trading takes place in the center of the city where a huge market square sprawls. Heroes may find each and every single object they can imagine, including nearly every Artifact or piece of Equipment ever made. Heroes can find plenty of armor suitable for them in here. Because of this, prices are usually a bit high. Hence, Tradeburg has the best economic state in all the land. As one can also imagine, robbers and pickpockets come in large numbers. It is not advised to go through Tradeburg unarmed. Heroes rarely have this issue, but the most successful thieves know that heroes' physical strengths are, more often than not, exceeded by their intellectual shortcomings, and thus it is both safer and usually more profitable to trick one into giving his riches away than to obtain them by stealth, force, or intimidation.
