Any objections, or shall I go ahead with converting the God template to show a Laurel where more than 3 medals would be displayed? This would affect every location in the Godwiki where {{tlGod}} is called, which now includes every instance of {{tl|Usergod}}. That makes it a ''very'' significant change, even if most instances of {{tl|God}} don't call for more than 3 medals. As such, I'd really love to be sure people would like that change to happen. 😊 -- [[User:Djonni|Djonni]] ([[User talk:Djonni|talk]]) 12:54, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Tiny images as icons

So, as many of us know painfully well, all of the original work on the Godwiki was done by desktop user(s) for desktop users with a total disregard for mobile interfaces. We also know that the overwhelming majority of interaction with the Godwiki is done in mobile. And one of our goals is to increase usability and accessibility in general, but for periods who use assistive technologies in particular.

So, I think it's time we replaced the manually px-sized image in the God template with an emoji icon. We've had that ovate in the template since Godwiki dawn, so I suspect some people may be attached to it, but I'd like to replace it with the silhouette symbol: 👤

It's a little less interesting, granted, but since the image isn't scaled up on high-density moving displays nobody ever sees that detail anyway.

It will mean we'll go from seeing this:

GodGodville

To this:

👤Godville

I'm open to other suggestions, thoughts and criticisms, but replacing all of these non-scaling icons is one of the things on The List™️ of stuff I've been meaning to fix forever. -- Djonni (talk) 10:07, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

Personally, I don't really care about that picture but simple question : doesn't using the |upright parameter instead of px work for those kind of image? -- WardPhoenix (talk) 10:35, 15 November 2019 (UTC)
Can you show us an example of what you suggest, WardPhoenix? If you do this: {{subst:God}} and save, you can then edit the [[File:... part of the substituted template code and we can see how it behaves on a few different displays. 😊 -- Djonni (talk) 10:45, 15 November 2019 (UTC)
In theory, the upright parameter can be used instead of px, as it will scale according to user's default image width. For example, the first picture below is at upright=0.4 while the second is at upright=1.1, and i didn't used any px parameter.

But somehow, as you can see, it doesn't seem to work on the icon. Maybe becuase the icon is to smol. --WardPhoenix (talk) 11:22, 15 November 2019 (UTC)
I always thought it was a picture of someone face palming... --Sand Devil (talk) 14:30, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

Proposal to migrate to Laurel

I recently put the finishing touches on Template:Laurel, which I put on the backburner long ago while I searched for a way to somehow use SVG (which, unless scalable vector graphics are enabled on the Godwiki, doesn't appear to be possible). Right now as I write this the documentation is bare-bones, but I intend to merge the documentation for {{Medal}} and {{Laurel}} into one document.

In short, Laurel is designed to take over the display of medals where > 3 medals would be shown. In the game itself, >3 medals are instead shown as a stylised laurel next to the God name, with a '4' or '5' as appropriate to indicate the medal count.

My intention for {{Laurel}} was always to have it take over rendering of medals in {{God}}, to finally bring Godwiki in line with the game.

Any objections, or shall I go ahead with converting the God template to show a Laurel where more than 3 medals would be displayed? This would affect every location in the Godwiki where Template:TlGod is called, which now includes every instance of {{Usergod}}. That makes it a very significant change, even if most instances of {{God}} don't call for more than 3 medals. As such, I'd really love to be sure people would like that change to happen. 😊 -- Djonni (talk) 12:54, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
