Description The Id to the hero's Ego

A Shoulder Devil (humerus diabolus) is a being that is born at the same time as every hero or heroine. They are only visible to the hero they correspond with and, like the hero, can come back from the dead. They often will try to lead the heroes into trouble and will give advice that often leads to mischief. These beings are always dressed in red and have bull horns, otherwise they look exactly like the hero that they correspond with.

The hero will often take the Shoulder Devil's advice and get into all sorts of problematic situations. Eventually the hero will get so fed up with the Shoulder Devil's misleading advice that they will often challenge the Shoulder Devil to mortal combat. Which doesn't mean much in Godville since the heroes' gods also have Shoulder Devil's that correspond to them and that resurrect their fallen earthly avatars.

Although it's uncommon, good-willed heroes pose a formidable obstacle towards Shoulder Devils by being overpowered with their antithesis and mortal enemy besides heroes: The hero's own shoulder angel:

!Hero's Diary
My Lord, you know how we each have a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other? Should I be concerned that my angel has wrapped my devil with duct tape?
