This Template Is Deprecated — USE {{Monster}} INSTEAD

{{Monster}} can now create Pet infoboxes (since all Pets are Monsters), it should be used instead of this template. Setting either of the pet-only parameters (|pet-levels= or |pet-feature=) will automatically create a Pet infobox, or you can add |pet=yes to do it explicitly. So, for example...
{{Pet|image=pet.jpg |description=Beast |levels=12-32 |totem=AGuild}}
{{Monster|image=pet.jpg |description=Beast |pet-levels=12-32 |totem=AGuild}} or
{{Monster|pet=yes |image=pet.jpg |description=Beast |pet-levels=12-32 |totem=AGuild}}
See Template:Monster for full documentation.
This change will allow Pet articles to benefit from any improvements made to {{Monster}}.

Double Dragons are one of the strangest and most feared monsters in all of Godville. However, they are well-known for their wisdom and honor, and will occasionally become a "pet" of the most powerful heroes. If one could combine the strength of a dragon, the intelligence of a Dolphin, and the heads of a hydra, the outcome would be this monster. A Double Dragon is one of the most unique beasts for its intelligence is just as formidable as its raw power. Unlike other behemoths, this one has the smarts to match wits with even the brightest Chessmaster. The Double Dragon has an wide variety of offensive and defensive options, and most of them can be performed at once due to its two brains. By prioritizing defense in one head and offense in the other, Double Dragons leave NO openings for an enemy to land an attack. The only course of action would be to try to get the heads to argue; They are essentially siblings after all. Double Dragons usually prefer to eat other monsters of its size, but it won't have mercy if challenged to a fight. Heroes would be wise to simply leave one alone if they see it.

Unfortunately, it has been rumored that this well-known wisdom and honor is all an elaborate facade, so that the dragon may befriend mighty heroes in order to better understand how to most painfully and ironically kill them later at an inopportune time. Also, they are rumored to be very passive-aggressive and secretly use their great wisdom to plot newer and more expensive ways to cost heroes gold in upkeep and grooming.

Double Dragons are two headed dragons. They come in green, dark blue, red, or black colors, but some have been in white. They are medium sized for a dragon, reachin 70 feet tall and 85 feet long. Their backs are covered in jagged spikes and their tails are mace-like. Their claws can be used as swords if forged right, and their scales can be fashioned into the toughest of shields. Only the Grayscaled Dragon has a tougher hide. The only thing that can penetrate a DD's skin is their own spikes. Another unique aspect is its ability to shoot lightning and fire. Both heads are capable of doing this, but one head is usually designed to think, so its flames are weaker on that side. It is important to note that DD's tend to argue a lot. From who should eat what to which one is better looking.

Life and Growth (Shrinkage):

Double Dragons have also been historically known as "Merlin Lizards". This is due to the fact that, like the fabled wizard, Double Dragons appear to move backward in time. They are their largest size (over 300 feet tall) when first born. However, at this age, they are also relatively stupid and powerless. If you are foolish enough to want to fight one, your best chance is when they are large enough to pick you up and dress you in silly outfits.

As they age, Double Dragons increase in strength and power, however, they also grow smaller and smaller. A middle-aged Double Dragon (about 500 years old), will be as large as a barn, and will have long mastered how to breathe fire to keep itself warm and well fed. These dragons are still wild and reckless, often staying out late when they have things to do early the next morning.

Senior (about 1000 years old) Double Dragons are often mistaken as wayward alligators or crocodiles. And many animal control agents have met their end after coming to rescue a hutowner from a "big lizard in their backyard". Even seasoned Heroes often mistake the extra head of a Double Dragon to simply be a byproduct of their drunken double vision, and the last seconds of their life encompass trying to coax one out from under a house with "Here, ugly kitty kitty kitty..." These monsters have now developed the sense of honor and wisdom that the dragons are known for, although it is not much use to heroes, as they also consider anyone who is stupid enough to approach them as unworthy of respect.

Ancient (2000 years +) Double Dragons are the most dangerous. They are the size of small lizards, yet they move at supersonic speed, and have mastered every form of breath attack imaginable. They can hide almost anywhere, can plow directly through mountains at a full run, and have been known to burrow into the earth and use their mighty strength to shift tectonic plates and cause earthquakes as practical jokes.

It has been theorized that Double Dragons continue to shink until they are microscopic and infinitely powerful, at which point their actions are unseen, unpredictable, but radically change the course of the world. Believers in this philosophy often refer to these microscopic dragon forces as "The Great Random".

As Pets:

For those Heroes strong enough to be kept as one of the dragon's pets, they will find these monsters to be powerful (if frustrating and insanely expensive) allies. And there is definitely something about being carried into town on the back of a 2-inch lizard that always impresses the villagers.

Double Dragons love the mountains for its rich supply of caves, particularly the Jagged Peaks. The Cave of the Weak Witted Oracle is their nesting site until they are old enough to fly. Inside the caves, they eat any other beasts roaming around and wash them down with liquid nitrate.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

  • Get stronger and harder to detect as they age
  • Nigh-Invulnerability
  • Two heads allow one to plan offensive attacks while the other actively defends
  • Able to think BEFORE it acts

  • Tends to argue with itself a lot
  • Claws are quite loose, providing heroes with formidable weapons
  • Highly hydrophobic due to an accident involving lightning breath, water, and half of their species
  • Will eventually become so small that it occupies itself with things we cannot comprehend
