Desktop layout

Hey GodTerezka , great work on this article so far, I really enjoyed it!

Just a quick layout note: Left-floated images can be tricky to work with, because the way text flows around them can get awkward. Which isn't to say that they can't be used effectively, just that sometimes they require additional steps taken to avoid issues. It's especially problematic when headings flow around left-justified content: screenshot.

So I just wanted to make a layout suggestion regarding the image placement and content flow. (Actually, I have a couple of different suggestions for how you can address this.)

  1. To keep body sections and images from interfering with each other, there's a template {{clear}} that can be inserted into the article source. I don't know how familiar you are with HTML coding and layout, but {{tlx|clear}] basically inserts a <div> with the clear:both; style.

The important thing is the effect: A {{clear}} tells the layout engine, "Don't place this alongside any floating elements, push it down the page until it's clear of them first." So, effectively, any body content following a {{clear}} is guaranteed to start at the left margin.

My second screenshot shows the results of placing a {{clear}} on the line immediately before the ==Attributes== heading.

  2. Alternatively, if you were to move the [[Image:CatClaw.JPG...]] image to immediately before the ==References== heading, then the left-floated image could be changed to [[Image:NeferkittyBox.jpg|thumb|300px|right|Neferkitty's sarcophagus]] and moved to the right side like the other image.

My third screenshot shows the effects of both of those changes. (But without the {{clear}}.)

I don't personally have any preference — either solution seems just fine to me. If having the images all lined up on the right feels boring, and you like the way the left-floated image breaks up the page, then I say leave it where it is. A {{clear}} placed above ==Attributes== fixes the layout just fine. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 11:14, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Hey GodFeRDNYC ! Thank you for your layout advice, I was wondering how to make it less awkward, but didn't really know how (except for aligning it right). I really appreciate your help.
For now, I added the {{clear}} before the ==Attributes== heading. I'll be adding more content tomorrow, so I'll have another look at it then. --Terezka (talk) 20:59, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
The article looks great! I like the new additions. The expanded § History probably means the {{clear}} isn't strictly necessary anymore, but it's not hurting anything by being there "just in case". (If I had my way I'd probably style all section headings with clear:left so that they never end up to the right of any floated content, since that basically never ever looks good. But that's yet another change that would require access to the wiki CSS, which we don't have.) -- FeRDNYC (talk) 08:22, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
