Statue based on a hero's description of their own fishing experience. Further research showed that they actually "captured" a bottle of beer that was a little shaken up when they opened it.
Nobody knows how it all started, but more and more heroes, from beginners to the most seasoned adventurers, are being spotted siting next to rivers, ponds and other water bodies, with an artifact attached to a line on a stick… They call it “fishing”.

Fishing is a popular hobby in Godville, which is little surprise, since it involves sitting by a river or pond, doing nothing other than holding a stick and drinking beer (with the chance of getting a free artifact in the process if they're lucky enough for their hook to snag one). For many heroes it is a welcome break from questing. While fishing, the hero can also regain health by eating the fish they caught.

In a nutshell, "fishing" in Godville involves your hero using one item as "bait" but possibly picking up several other items. For example, here's a screenshot of a hero using their deus ex machina as "bait" and getting a bag of lovely bones (as one of several items over time) in return:

If your hero doesn't have an ark, that's about it. If your hero DOES have a completed ark, they can also catch monsters to put in their ark in the hope of preserving some of Godville's wildlife in the event of a flood. Understandably, dragging a monster from a lake creates quite a scene, and scares away the fish, so after catching a monster, the hero will stop fishing and go on their way.

So far, fishing seems to be a largely "ZPG" activity. Performing influences during fishing will actually scare the fish and cancel your hero's fishing without any end reward

Fishing Artifacts

Some artifacts are only gainable from fishing. Most notable are activatables which cost no godpower and either turn into 'rubbish' (a single non-bold artifact) or something useful (anywhere from 2-7 artifacts, sometimes including bold ones). These are only caught at the end of a fishing session. In addition some artifacts can be caught while fishing.

Fishing end rewards

Our heroes always like to go out with a bang and wouldn't settle with just a measly bag of bones. No, at the end of fishing they often get a special reward, be it one of the afore mentioned activatable fishing artifacts, a monster to shove into an ark, a log or even a golden brick. Of course, you won't always get one of these as sometimes the fish (or in this case, logs, bricks, artifacts and monsters) just don't bite. Sometimes a nasty fishing inspector will come along as well and fine the heroes for being without a license.
