Slideshow request/idea from Arthuri Victori

Note: This is discussed at length on Arthuri's talk page.

Hi FeRDNYC , this is from GodArthuri Victori , thanks for your reply on Spode's talk page on my request.

I do use gif files, but I use it to edit my chronicle. The purpose of needing a slideshow template, is simply because i want to put several gif images into one frame, to become like a short video clip. However, Wikia maximum upload for a file is only 2mb. Therefore I am thinking of merging several 2mb gif files together to make them work better.

This is my wiki for a look Victorique Vang

Because I want to add more high animated Gif files, therefore i would like to have a slideshow as I can't think of other alternative as the maximum upload is 2mb per file. However there is to cut down the size of the image, decreasing the quality, but I do not much prefer on that as some of the gif would be long and will be larger than 2mb.

If it is troublesome or not possible to work, please do let me know, I am fine with it. Just for info, I usually use to edit gif files. And I get gif files from the internet and movies. -- โ€” Preceding unsigned comment added by Arthuri Victori (talk โ€ข contribs) 11:45, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

A quick thanks for your work :)

I've been pretty absent from the wiki (and game in general) recently as that dang real life inevitably intrudes. I am still catching up, but just wanted to say a heartfelt thank-you for your continued, very thoughtful, inclusive, and at times thankless work on the wiki's infrastructure and usability. Particularly, but not exclusively, your work on Omnibus List and Template:Monster; your continued attempts to solicit advice, participation, and feedback through every possible channel; and your continued positivity and encouragement of other wiki users and editors, in the forum and in the talk pages.

You have a very large positive karma balance here at this point, and I wanted to add my voice to others in thanks. :) --Djonni (talk) 10:26, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

You live! \o/ Your presence around here has definitely been missed, and your absence noted โ€” glad to hear it's just something boring and normal like that "real life" nonsense. Hope things are going well, and at some point you'll hopefully have more free time to wander through.
The kind words are very much appreciated! I always feel a little weird taking credit for what's really just my own neurosis and lack of self-confidence, since what people see as "continued attempts to solicit advice, participation, and feedback" I mostly think of as "needing someone to confirm that I'm doing the right thing and not completely fouling things up". ๐Ÿ™„ But people have been great with feedback and very indulgent of my crazy ideas, so that's always uplifting.
All the same, without our lengthy & productive back-and-forths, Talk namespace activity around here has probably dropped by 80% recently! Hopefully at some point it'll pick up again, until then thanks again for taking the time to reach out, it's great to hear from you and know you're still out there. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 04:13, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
I'm sorry for my absence! :) I am establishing myself in a demanding environment right now, including temporary accomodations and other (temporary) impediments, but getting back to stability one milestone at a time.
I tried to make sure I caught anything important... I left words scattered across Talk: pages all across the wiki yesterday, I'm not sure that leaving you a {{talkback}} for each one would be very helpful ;)
I saw your comment on Godville Blog, post 117  (the novelty of that lovely template has not worn off, and it's going to be used EXTENSIVELY on History) about the skin change. There are a handful of other subtle changes I've noticed as well — where previously the only tags that were ever applied to edits were Mobile edit, Mobile web edit, whereas now I see Blanking, Redirect target change, Deleted (off the top of my head). So I suspect what's happened is that there's been a version upgrade (or at least an extensive config change) to the underlying Mediawiki, rather than a piecewise change to just the skins/CSS. I can kind of understand why they may not wish to discuss versioning and configuration specifics of the wiki software.
Anyway, good to be back, and good to keep stumbling on improvements large and small everywhere I turn. Now, I think it's time to go update the Featured Article of the Week of the Month of the Current Period... --Djonni (talk) 06:29, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

Template feedback requested!

I thought I'd try crafting a {{Pantheon link}} to add to the collection, in a similar style as {{Guild link}}. I would expect its main use would be in {{Usergod}} and {{Guild}}, but not by default (considering that positions in short-term and guild pantheons can change every few hours, it seems silly to link by default to a position that's out of date by the time the ink dries). I've put it at User:Djonni/Sandbox and have used it in my infobox at Djonni#Vitalstatistix.

Since you're the template maestro, I thought I'd ask for your input before going ahead and releasing it into the wild. (It uses more complex, and more nested, parser functions that I've used before.) I think I've tested it pretty thoroughly with Special:ExpandTemplates, but obviously you've far more experience with templates than I! :) -- Djonni (talk) 11:36, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

Sure, I'll take a look, but it sounds good to me!
It'd be handy if we had a way of actually linking to a user or guild's position on a given pantheon, of course, but as far as I know we don't. (Not without having some sort of query tool that could take a name and do the API lookup required to translate that into a position, since IIRC the pantheon standings are available via the API. But it would require a two-step request like that, and a server somewhere that could perform the lookups.)
And while it's theoretically _possible_ to link to a given position on the pantheon... (As you know, because you did exactly that! #Neeevermind)
So we're stuck with things as they stand, which are that any logged-in user who gets linked to a pantheon will be automatically positioned at their OWN ranking, or their guild's if they visit a guild pantheon and they're in a guild. That's probably the best we can offer. Though I guess in theory we could forcibly link to the first page of the pantheon, just to get around that automatic positioning at the link-ee's own standings, since links from the wiki aren't really meant to be about personal pantheon standings. *shrug* -- FeRDNYC (talk) 23:14, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
Looks good to me! Coding-wise it makes total sense, the flow is as good as it can be considering template coding is really just a psychotic type of mail-merge on steroids. ๐Ÿ˜„ Only thing I'll note is for the documentation, not the code: Parameter assignments in {{tlf}} calls need to have their equals signs protected, or the whole parameter vanishes. That's why the named parameters aren't showing up in the examples. So, e.g.
  • {{tlf|User:Djonni/Sandbox|pairs|300|text=short}}
should be...
  • {{tlf|User:Djonni/Sandbox|pairs|300|text{{=}}short}}
and so on.
But, really that's it. LGTM, nice stuff! -- FeRDNYC (talk) 23:32, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
...Well, one other thing: I'm not completely sure about the icon. I think it's completely fine the way it is, and as a symbol it definitely makes sense, but I thought I'd throw out some other options, just for your consideration. If one of these speaks to you, cool. If you prefer to stick with the current one, I am totally on board with that too. Entirely up to you.
Possibilities ๐Ÿ† ๐Ÿ… ๐Ÿ“Š ๐Ÿ“ˆ โ›ฐ๏ธ ๐ŸŒ‹ ๐ŸŽข (...OK, those last 3 were just me screwing around.) -- FeRDNYC (talk) 23:42, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
Actually the current icon was mostly a placeholder, I thought it was too boring, I think ๐Ÿ† is a great suggestion. Will update!
And thanks for the correction on {{=}}... I did the examples last and inattentively... -- Djonni (talk) 07:07, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Notey.png Feedback required I'm sure you've noticed, but I got totally sick of the awful {{Stub}} and {{Picture}} formatting and standardised them both to use {{Sign}}. I also added an optional parameter for stub to link to the appropriate guideline page — we've discussed that these need to be updated, but even imperfect as they are they're better than no guidance at all, I thought.
Any thoughts or comments? :) -- Djonni (talk) 14:19, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
Awesome, that was sorely needed! Thanks for doing it. I definitely don't think the guideline pages being out of date is a reason not to link to them, in fact hopefully it'll provide motivation to actually do the updating. Unused, ignored pages generally don't get worked on, because why bother?
I threw together Category:Hatnote templates for those two and a few others, in the hopes that we might luck into some sort of unity-by-association thing. And because I like sorting and filing things. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 01:13, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
Hatnotes category's a good idea, it's actually really useful to have these in one place. -- Djonni (talk) 08:39, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
