New topics?

Would it be clearer if clicking on the link Nominate an article would create a new topic? --His portliness (talk) 18:49, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

That's a good question. Will try out things tommorow to see how it could render. Unless someone wants to try out it, be welcomed to do it if you read this ! --WardPhoenix (talk) 23:51, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
The trouble with this idea is that it will take people immediately to a completely blank editing page, where they won't be able to see any guide or instructions about what's going on or what they're doing. I'd strongly suggest that the link from Main Page should take people to a friendly explanation, and from that explanation, then a friendly link to create a new topic is a great idea... So long as you're okay with people not seeing the friendly instructions then. -- Djonni (talk) 08:12, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Couldnt a work around be having a preset message when creating the topic? Like it was done on JanuWiki2019 for the creation of article. Though maybe the link from main page should atleast end up in the norman page?

I undid my edit on the main page for now. It still links to a edit box on the nomination page though. It's not much better... Maybe it should go to Template:Featured/Nominations instead of an edit box? --His portliness (talk) 10:44, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
Ooooh WardPhoenix that's an excellent idea, and I've just looked into it; it seems that preload templates can be applied to a new section, not just a new page.
I would, in that case, suggest trying it with a sandbox to be sure our mediawiki installation supports this. To test it, the link would include ?action=edit&section=new&preload=Sandbox_page_name (if that doesn't work as expected, try Sandbox%20page%20name instead).
If that tests successfully, then I'd suggest creating Template:Featured/Nomination preload and &preload= that. -- Djonni (talk) 10:58, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── This does seems to work. Well here we go templating again! --WardPhoenix (talk) 19:44, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
