Template talk:Delete guild

I may have an objection there. "Not widely known" doesn't mean the guild do exist but only have one member? (I had that message for my guild until Arcanedreamer joined). I think you have a redirect to the daily newspaper truly doesn't exist.

But obviously i could be completely wrong! -- WardPhoenix (talk) 17:05, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Some very quick testing with misspelled guild names & presumed non-existant ones show the 'not widely known in Godville' page. It's only unknown deities that link to the newspaper isn't it? -- S624 (talk) 17:23, 5 October 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, WardPhoenix, I thought about that, I'd like to make the {{doc|content=}} content give some clear guidelines for how this should be used. 😊
A non-existent guild or a guild with just one member appears as 'not widely known', however, checking the Godville profile page (as in, the destination of GodDjonni ) of the:
  • Original creator, and
  • Last significant editor
should be adequate to confirm it. If neither are members of the guild, then it is almost certainly defunct. For example, ⚜️ Lords of the Pit  had no guild page when it had just one member, but your GodWardPhoenix  page showed you were a member. (I remember this very clearly from looking it up for the JanuWiki Pantheon of Wildness!)
I was trying to find a way to have the hatnote autolink to {{god|Page creator}} somehow, there's no magic word for that — the closest is for the last editor, but that would just link to the God page of whoever placed the template on the page, so it's not useful. -- Djonni (talk) 17:45, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Yay, emoji!

I think the coffin ⚰️ is pretty good for this, but I had been thinking for a while that I'd like to make this template more visually different to {{delete}}, and the emoji conversion is a great excuse!

I was thinking that a cute option for this template might be the rarely-used amphora emoji: 🏺. A defunct guild sorta equals a lost and ruined civilisation, right?

This defunct guild page is marked for deletion.

The “Delete guild” guild is not widely known in Godville. However, if you are a member of this guild, feel free to remove the {{delete guild}} template.

What do you think? Another option is to make the background colouring more distinct from {{delete}} too. -- Djonni (talk) 19:22, 27 December 2019 (UTC)

I also thought of changing the emoji and putting that one, I was just a little afraid it would be less obvious as a defunt indicator. Just personnal opinion, nothing that can't be changed! --WardPhoenix (talk) 19:24, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
Heh... well, if we both thought of it then it must actually be a brilliant idea! ;) I'm going to go ahead and change it, and maybe adjust the colouring a little to match too. -- Djonni (talk) 19:49, 27 December 2019 (UTC)

Category targetted

On a Talk : Main Page topic, I noticed that is was suggested changing the target category of this template to something else to distinguish it to the basic "Marqued for deletion".

Should we go ahead with something like "Defunct Guilds", "Not widely known Guilds", something else even better ? -- WardPhoenix (talk) 01:52, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Well, if we're thinking of doing that, I think we should also consider renaming the template of its not marking for deletion anymore. Perhaps the template becomes {{defunct guild}}, and targets category Guilds not widely known?
Of course the template does say "marked for deletion." I guess the question is, do we think defunct guild pages should be marked for deletion or kept? -- Djonni (talk) 09:36, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
I guess they should be kept, they did existed (or still do) after all and anyway, we both know how likely an article will end up actually deleted, so since we'll end up stuck with them, better have them categorized I guess. It's kinda different from, as example, a template article which is no longer used.

I guess we can rename the template if necessary (even if doing so create another useless redirect...) --WardPhoenix (talk) 13:16, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
