Origin / background

A little bit of background on the core pun here, for those who may not be familiar.

502 Bad Gateway is a real HTTP error response. (All HTTP responses include a three-digit status code, including valid ones which are accompanied by "200 OK". Other well-known responses include "404 Not Found", "301 Moved Permanently", etc.)

This same pun/reference is also why the town of Bad Gateway is located at milestone 502. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 23:58, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Indeed! :D Additionally, in the early days of Godville, the most frequent error that prevented deities temporarily accessing their heroes’ adventures was the “502 Bad Gateway.” That was the origin of the nemesis entry between the GV Admin and the Gatekeeper that shows up in the hero’s diary, and may be why the devs approved the 502 Bad Gatekeeper. —SourceRunner (talk) 03:04, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
